On Monday 6 December 2021, Warmworks Scotland LLP announced the acquisition of Connected Response Ltd, which will allow Warmworks to deliver a more diverse range of heating solutions to homes in need and will strengthen our mission of supporting a just transition by widening access to innovative technologies for homes that are in or at risk of fuel poverty.
The acquisition will provide Connected Response with support to harness the significant potential for their product and help the business to grow and diversify. By uniting with Warmworks, they will have access to the support and market reach that will help them facilitate that growth and increase the number of homes that can be helped with their innovative technology.
This will not change how Warmworks manages its current contracts. We will maintain our established, quality-driven approach and remain committed to providing the right solutions into the right homes across all of our contracts.
Q. What does this acquisition involve?
A. Warmworks was set up as a joint venture between Energy Saving Trust, Changeworks and Everwarm. The three partners have invested in this acquisition of Connected Response as part of Warmworks’ commitment to supporting a just transition and enabling access to innovative technologies for homes that are in or at risk of fuel poverty.
This step strengthens that mission and will enable Warmworks to deliver a more diverse range of solutions to homes in need.
Q. Who are Connected Response?
A. Connected Response is a company that was first established just under three years ago. They manufacture and install devices that can be retrofitted in homes with electric storage heaters in a way that then makes storage heating into a smarter, more controllable option and a system that can keep people warm at a lower cost.
Connected Response’s mission goes hand-in-hand with what Warmworks aims to achieve: to help people live in warmer homes and save money on fuel bills. The acquisition is therefore a natural fit with Warmworks’ goals.
Q. Why is Warmworks making this acquisition?
A. Warmworks recognises that the dual challenges of tackling fuel poverty and providing decarbonised heating as we move towards net zero will require new technologies, new approaches and new solutions.
Our work is about bringing those new technologies and techniques into the homes of those who stand to gain the most from an optimised, energy efficient property.
Warmworks believes that the transition to net zero must be a just transition, which means that homes that are in or at risk of fuel poverty – those who stand to gain the most from living in more energy efficient, lower carbon homes – should have equal access to the technologies and innovations that will be a key part of the journey.
The Connected Response system is a technology that has the potential to be an important element of that new technology mix.
Q. Why is this acquisition a good fit for Warmworks?
A. Connected Response is a business founded on the same values and same core principles as Warmworks.
They have been focused on providing innovative technologies into properties in social housing in some of the most deprived parts of Glasgow, where fuel poverty is extremely high and householders are using outdated systems that offer them no control or affordable route to warmth.
Their work so far has been about engaging vulnerable tenants, installing their innovative technology and supporting them as they seek to make savings on their energy bills.
Q. Does this change how Warmworks will manage its current contracts?
A. No. We will maintain our established, quality-driven approach and remain committed to providing the right solutions into the right homes across all of our contracts.
