The Home Upgrade Grant Phase 2 (HUG2) is a UK Government-funded scheme that provides funding to local authorities to make energy efficiency improvements in people’s homes. It aims to help households manage fuel bills, make homes warmer and more comfortable, lower carbon emissions, and create green jobs.

Who are Warmworks?

Warmworks is the Managing Agent of the HUG2 scheme, working on behalf of the Greater South East Net Zero Hub to support local authorities across the region. This builds on the work we have previously carried out on behalf of the Hub under the Sustainable Warmth scheme.

Our job under HUG2 is to work closely with the Greater South East Net Zero Hub and individual local authorities to identify people who might qualify for the scheme and then provide an end to end service from the point of referral through to installation and inspection. Find out more about us here.

What is available?

Following an assessment of your home, carried out by one of our highly qualified Retrofit Assessors, in-depth analysis will take place to determine a suitable package of energy efficiency improvements for your home.

These energy efficiency improvements can include:

  • wall insulation
  • loft insulation
  • underfloor insulation
  • cavity wall insulation
  • air source heat pumps
  • solar panels
  • thermostats and heating controls

Please note: Replacement/repair of fossil fuel heating systems such as gas/oil/LPG boilers are not available through this scheme.

Who qualifies for HUG2?

Owner occupiers and private rented properties are eligible for the scheme. For people who live in a rented property, the landlord will need to give us permission to install energy efficiency improvements.

Householders also need to meet certain eligibility criteria to qualify for funding:

  • Homes not heated by mains gas, which includes oil, coal, LPG or electric heating
  • The home must have a low energy efficiency rating (an EPC rating of D, E, F, or G – this will be assessed by Warmworks)
  • The household must meet one of the other qualifying criteria:
Annual gross household income of less than £31,000 (after tax and deductions, but inclusive of benefits)
Annual household income of less than £20,000 a year (after housing costs are deducted)
A member of your household is in receipt of an eligible means tested benefit, such as:

o Child Tax Credits (CTC)
o Housing benefit
o Income based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA)
o Income related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
o Income Support (IS)
o Pension Credit Guarantee Credit (PCGC)
o Pension Credit Savings Credit (PCSC)
o Universal Credit (UC)
o Working Tax Credit (WTC)

  • You live in a postcode approved by your Local Authority

If you do not meet the eligibility criteria above but struggle to heat your home and pay your fuel bills, get in touch with your local authority to discuss available options. If you are in any doubt about your eligibility for funding, you can contact us and our friendly team will be more than happy to help.

It couldn’t have gone any better, it really couldn’t have. The guys were on time in the morning, they and they were friendly. They did a much better job than I had anticipated in any fashion, and also cleaned up after themselves. All I had to do was sit back and put the heating on and enjoy the heat!

Mr L, Glasgow

I’m looking forward to having a winter – the first in many years – where I don’t stress out about the fact that I am freezing in most of the house.

Mr N, Cupar, Fife

Being able to have a bath without having to wait for an immersion tank to heat up is just bliss!  For the first time in a long time, I slept for a solid six hours. It is so lovely to have running hot water and heating which comes on automatically depending on the setting of the thermostat which I can control.  I no longer dread the winters!

Mrs F, Glasgow

There is a big, noticeable improvement with my home being warmer. I have more peace of mind that the heating system which was installed is the best and most efficient green energy heating system available. I now have constant hot water, which is something I did not have before.

Mr B, Kippen, Stirlingshire

The installation was tremendous. It was absolutely spot on. It was only one day. They arrived early in the morning and got the job done that day. You wouldn’t have even known they were in the house apart from the fact there was a new heating system. It was great, it was honestly perfect.

Mrs A, Thurso, Highlands

This changed my life. My boiler was broken, and to give you an example, I was being charged £1.50 an hour for my old boiler, I am now averaging £3.35 a day with the new system. My flat is now constantly warm and very comfortable, and I have hot water on tap.

Mrs E, Glasgow

It’s definitely had an impact on my wellbeing, as I worry less about the high bills. At least I am now warm and comfortable. Before, I was either cold or I was roasting.

Mrs H, Perth

It’s a very good system and my heating bills certainly aren’t as expensive. The house is so much warmer. It’s definitely given me a lot more peace of mind, and I’m a lot happier.

Mrs S, Girvan
