At Warmworks we prioritise end-user satisfaction, so finding a measure such as the Airex Floorvent that would cause minimal disruption to residents was a big win for our team.
In October 2023, before the launch of phase two of the Warmer Homes Scotland Scheme, we partnered with AirEx to introduce the Floorvent system as one of the measures offered under the scheme. This system provides a low-cost and minimally disruptive underfloor ventilation solution that smartly adjusts airflow to prevent heat loss.
As of November 2024, we have installed the Floorvent system in over 2,400 households, resulting in annual savings of more than £600,000 across Scotland, according to a recent case study.
AirEx, like Warmworks, was created to help households suffering from fuel poverty by introducing innovative smart air brick technology to improve air quality and minimise heat loss. AirEx can cut heat loss, improve energy efficiency ratings, and boost a household’s EPC (energy performance certificate) rating by 2-5 SAP points (Standard Assessment Procedure), helping families achieve noticeable energy savings.
“Including Floorvent as an energy efficiency measure on the Warmer Homes Scotland scheme offers us an effective way to provide underfloor ventilation to homes to reduce draughts and retain warmth.” Laura Couper, Contract Delivery Manager, Warmworks
Following a pilot with AirEx, Warmworks integrated the Floorvent system into the Warmer Homes Scotland programme, reaching thousands of households. Now, alongside other heating and energy efficiency measures, Floorvent technology is offered to eligible customers with homes suitable for its installation across Scotland
Since we partnered with AirEx, customers have reported greater comfort and lower energy bills. Reduced heating needs translate into a smaller carbon footprint, a win for both the environment as we progress towards our Net Zero 2030 goal and fuel-poor households.
“I’ve been quite happy and not had to put my heating on yet. I’ve felt that the house has been warmer.” Mrs Brown from Carluke
One of the main benefits of this system is the minimal disruption to households during the installation process. This is because the installation process mostly takes place outside the house and only takes around an hour to complete. Customers have responded positively, reporting that the installation was quick and minimally invasive, with immediate benefits in improved home comfort. As customer satisfaction is one of our main priorities, we see this as a massive win in maintaining high customer satisfaction levels.
Customers are not the only ones who have responded positively; our installers have also been impressed by how quickly the installation process can be completed with minimal mess. This initiative has also allowed for increased demand for local installers, creating employment opportunities across Scotland and contributing to local economic growth. Skilled workers in insulation and heating have also benefited, strengthening the industry while meeting community needs for energy-efficient housing.
“We started off quite small and we’ve grown over the last eight years with Warmworks. Working on retrofit projects, you look at the whole house approach, AirEx fits in really well with suspended flooring and where you can’t get underfloor insulation, you can fit AirEx bricks and it makes a big difference to the property.” David Haig, Montali Energy Services
The case study highlights the success of the Warmworks-AirEx partnership over the last 12 months and demonstrates that new retrofit solutions like Floorvent can deliver wide-reaching benefits. By adding AirEx to large-scale retrofit programmes, social landlords, consultancies, and contractors can help tackle fuel poverty, boost energy efficiency, and drive local employment.
Additionally, with this successful deployment model at scale, AirEx Floorvent is now a compelling addition to retrofit programmes across the UK, helping make homes warmer, more affordable, and more sustainable for the future.
We are proud to partner with AirEx and are glad they are part of our initiative to help households suffering from fuel poverty in Scotland.
